Description
This is the Tambour Louvred as a wall lantern, the lantern carried above a cast bracket. The Tambour Louvred is louvred, six horizontal fins shading an opal cylinder. The light lifts up the face of the wall as well as falling onto the path below. The powder paint is baked on rather than sprayed, so it keeps its colour against sun and salt instead of chalking off in a season or two.
It is extruded as well as cast, which is unusual here and lets the body be a true cylinder rather than a tapered casting. We take it for contemporary houses and for commercial frontages where a period casting would look borrowed. The first image is the manufacturer's own scale drawing of this wall lantern, filled in solid black and supplied in black, graphite, grey, oxide or white, not a photograph: none is published, and we would rather draw it accurately than show you a different product. On a wall it is looked at as much as looked by, so it is worth holding it up to the brick before the fixings go in. Most people mount an outdoor lantern higher than they meant to and it lights the gutter.
It fixes to masonry and the cable should enter from behind the backplate wherever the wall allows. Brought in from below, a cable invites water to run down the sheath into the housing, which is how most outdoor wall lights fail long before the fitting does. Wiring is work for a qualified electrician: it wants a terminal approved to EN 60998-2-1 or EN 60998-2-2 in a wiring box rated IP68, which is the manufacturer's own instruction.
