Description
The Swirl is a large wall light built around a hand-finished resin swirl motif in antiqued gold leaf, paired with a rectangular linen shade. The swirl itself is cast as a single sculptural form, with each ridge and fold of the spiral individually leaf-applied, creating tonal variation across the surface. The rectangular shade sits above the swirl on a concealed bracket, diffusing the light from a single E27 bulb (sold separately) through the linen weave.
Designed for feature walls in entrance halls, landings, and bedrooms, the Swirl works best where the wall is uncluttered and the fitting can read as a standalone decorative object. The 318mm height and 152mm projection suit walls with 2.4m+ ceiling heights, positioned 1.5-1.8m above floor level to place the light source at head height. The linen shade softens the output, creating wash light on the wall behind and to the sides rather than directed task light.
The antiqued gold leaf finish is applied by hand, so each piece carries slight variation in the depth of the antiquing and the way the leaf catches light across the sculptural ridges. The resin base underneath the leaf gives the swirl a tactile, three-dimensional quality distinct from stamped or flat metalwork. The linen shade measures approximately 229mm wide, proportioned to balance the visual weight of the swirl motif below without overwhelming it.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Swirl take?
The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to suit the traditional aesthetic and linen shade.
Can the gold leaf finish be cleaned?
The antiqued gold leaf is sealed but still delicate. Dust with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid damp cleaning, polishes or sprays, as these can damage the leaf or alter the antiqued patina.
What wall fixing is required?
The wall plate fits standard UK back boxes. The 152mm projection and combined weight of the resin swirl, metal bracket and shade require secure fixing into a solid wall or suitable cavity wall anchor if mounting on plasterboard.
Does the gold leaf vary between pieces?
Yes. The antiqued gold leaf is applied by hand to each resin swirl, so the depth of antiquing and the way light catches the ridges differs between individual fittings. This is a characteristic of the hand-finishing process.
