Description

The Sedgehurst is a two light flush ceiling light with a 400mm Tiffany-style shade in multicoloured leaded glass, projecting 190mm from the ceiling. The shade curves rather than sitting flat, so the pattern reads at an angle as well as straight on, and the leadwork holds its shape clearly against the colour. Two 60W E27 GLS bulbs go inside, supplied separately, and the fitting is dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer. It weighs 3.2kg.

At 400mm it is the middle size for a flush light, which makes it an easy fit for bedrooms, landings, home offices, a hall or a kitchen with a lower ceiling. If a pendant would hang in front of a window, catch a door or sit awkwardly under a sloping wall, this is the alternative that keeps the ceiling clear. It works in cottages and period houses without looking heavy, and it gives an even spread across a room rather than a single pool of light. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is cut and leaded panel by panel before soldering, so the colour mix and the seam lines vary a little between shades. The frame and mounting plate are metal, and the shade releases to reach the lamps. It is Class 1, so it needs an earth connection and we would have a qualified electrician fit it, going into a joist or a rated ceiling anchor. Dust with a dry, soft cloth, wipe with a barely damp cloth when marked, and keep sprays and polishes away from the solder. Other Sedgehurst colourways are available.
