Description

The QTX 3-pin XLR plug is a cable-mount connector with a short body design, plastic strain relief sleeve and integrated cable protector. The connector accepts cables up to 8mm in diameter and uses a screw-down cable clamp to secure the outer sheath once the internal conductors are soldered to the three pins.

Designed for field termination of balanced audio cables in live sound, studio and installation work, the short body reduces the overall length of the terminated connector, making it easier to fit into tight back-of-rack spaces and cable looms. The plastic outer shell protects the internal solder joints and pin assembly from impact damage during touring and live events.

The three-pin configuration carries balanced audio signal using pins 1 (ground/shield), 2 (hot/positive) and 3 (cold/negative), following standard XLR wiring conventions. The connector mates with standard 3-pin XLR sockets on mixing consoles, amplifiers, active speakers and other pro audio equipment. The strain relief clamp grips the cable jacket to prevent flex damage at the solder points.

Frequently Asked

What cable diameter does it accept?

The connector accepts cables up to 8mm in outer diameter. This includes most standard microphone cables, DMX cables and line-level audio cables used in professional installations.

How is the cable terminated?

The three internal pins are soldered to the cable conductors (hot, cold and ground). Once soldered, the cable jacket is clamped in the strain relief section and the outer shell is screwed together to seal the assembly.

Is this the plug or the socket?

This is the plug (male connector) with three pins that insert into a female XLR socket. In standard audio wiring, the plug is fitted to the cable carrying signal from a source (microphone, mixer output) and the socket is on the receiving device (mixer input, amplifier).

What does 'short body' mean?

The short body design reduces the overall length of the connector compared to standard XLR plugs, making it easier to fit into congested equipment racks and cable bundles where space behind panels is limited.
