Description

The NU-X NES-1 is a wireless digital wind instrument with keys laid out to suit saxophone players. It runs on its own internal battery and recharges via USB-C, which also acts as the connection for firmware updates. Inside you get 50 high definition, multi-sampled instrument tones, with expression shaped by breath and reed pressure sensors so your phrasing carries through to the sound. An onboard display and menu handle your playing settings, and there's an option for trumpet fingering if you're coming across from brass.

For sound, the NES-1 has a dual-speaker system built in, giving you and anyone nearby immediate audio without needing to plug into anything. It can also take a Bluetooth audio stream for playback through the instrument itself. Alongside the wired main output and headphone jacks, there's a full wireless system on board. Open the bottom compartment and you'll find a 5.8GHz plug-in receiver that connects straight to a mixing console (mixer) or audio interface for a wire-free link to your PA or recording setup. That same compartment doubles as the charging dock for the receiver, keeping the whole connection method compact.

The mouthpiece comes off for cleaning, and there's a neck strap attachment to take the weight while you play. Battery life runs to around 6 hours for the instrument and 4.5 hours for the receiver, with a full charge taking about 2 hours. Weighing 852g and measuring 515 x 107 x 88mm, the NES-1 gives saxophonists and other woodwind players a responsive, expressive instrument alongside a wide set of new sounds to work with.
