Description

The NU-X NES-1 is a wireless digital wind instrument with keys laid out to suit saxophone players. It runs on its own internal battery and recharges via USB type-C, and that same connection also handles firmware updates. Inside you get 50 high definition, multi-sampled instrument sounds, with expression driven by breath and reed pressure sensors so your playing responds much as it would on an acoustic instrument. An onboard display and internal menu let you adjust playing settings, and there is even a trumpet fingering option for brass players who want to pick it up.

Sound comes from a purpose-built dual-speaker system that gives immediate output for both the player and anyone listening. The speakers can also receive an audio stream over Bluetooth for playback through the instrument itself. Alongside the wired 6.3mm main output and 3.5mm headphones jack (a 6.3mm jack is sometimes called a 1/4 inch jack), there is a full built-in wireless system. Open the bottom compartment and you will find a 5.8GHz plug-in receiver that connects straight to a mixing console or audio interface for wire-free links to a sound system or recording setup.

That bottom compartment doubles as a charging dock for the receiver, which keeps the whole connection method compact and easy to manage. The mouthpiece is removable for cleaning, and there is a neck strap attachment for support while you play. Charging takes around two hours, giving roughly six hours of playing time from the NES-1 and about 4.5 hours from the receiver. At 515 x 107 x 88mm and 852g, it stays portable.
