Description

The NU-X NBP-5 is the signature preamp pedal of U.S. bass guitarist Melvin Lee Davis. It gives you a full front end for your bass tone, with a 3-band EQ that includes a swept mid-band so you can dial in exactly where the mids sit. Separate Preamp and Drive footswitches let you kick in extra gain when a passage needs it, keeping your core sound clean the rest of the time.

An Impulse Response (I.R.) loader handles cabinet emulation, so you can run custom cabinet simulations without carrying a rig. The balanced XLR D.I. output feeds a live or studio mixing console directly, while a separate 6.3mm jack output and a Thru connection let you send signal to an amplifier at the same time. There's also an auxiliary line input (3.5mm) for jamming along to a track and a headphone output (also called a headphone jack) for quiet practice.

For recording and deeper editing, a micro USB port connects the pedal to a PC as an audio interface and for control through the NU-X software. This is where you load impulse responses, adjust settings and update firmware. Audio runs at 48kHz 32-bit with a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz. At 115 x 105 x 58mm and 460g the NBP-5 stays compact enough for a pedalboard, yet it has the outputs to act as the main control unit for a live or studio bass rig. Power comes from a 9Vdc adaptor drawing more than 150mA, which is not supplied.

Frequently Asked

Can the NBP-5 be used as a DI box?

Yes. It has a balanced XLR D.I. output that feeds directly into a live or studio mixing console, so you can send your bass signal to front of house or an interface.

Does it work as an audio interface?

Yes. The micro USB port connects to a PC for recording, and the pedal handles audio at 48kHz 32-bit. You also use the same connection for firmware updates and editing.

Can I load my own cabinet impulse responses?

Yes. The built-in I.R. loader lets you run cabinet simulations, and you can manage impulse responses through the NU-X software over USB.

Does it come with a power supply?

No. You'll need a 9Vdc adaptor rated above 150mA with a 5.5 x 2.1mm DC jack. The adaptor is not supplied.

Can I use it with an amplifier and a mixer at the same time?

Yes. Alongside the XLR D.I. output there's a 6.3mm jack output plus a Thru connection, so you can feed a mixing console and an amplifier together.

Is there a way to practise with headphones?

Yes. There's a 3.5mm headphone output, plus a 3.5mm auxiliary input so you can play along to a backing track.
