Description

The NU-X NBK-5 Masamune is a sound-crafter pedal that shapes your dry signal before it reaches your amp or any effects unit. It combines two stages in one enclosure: a Booster and a Kompressor. The idea is to forge your tone at source, adding useful colour and control so the signal you send on is already doing what you want it to. Everything runs on pure analogue circuitry.

The Booster adds beneficial colour to your signal. Once you have set the boost and drive levels, a Hi-Cut toggle switch lets you roll off high frequencies on the input signal if you need to. The Kompressor side gives you three controls. Komp Level sets the final output level for the compressor, letting you balance input and output. Sustain adjusts the compression ratio and increases sustain, so higher settings squash harder when you hit the strings and hold notes longer. Blend sets the compressor transparency from 50 to 100 percent, so you can dial in exactly how much compressed signal mixes with your dry tone. Inside Routing Control lets you order the two effects to suit your setup.

The Masamune needs an external 9Vdc power supply, which is not included. It works with the compatible 173.290UK unit. There is no battery option, so factor a supply into your pedalboard plan. As a compression pedal (compressor in US usage) with a front-end boost, it suits players who want to tighten dynamics and add drive without stacking two separate boxes. The pure analogue signal path keeps things simple and direct between guitar and amp.
