Description

The Larkbury large pendant takes the same leaded glass up to a 480mm shade, hung on a drop that adjusts between 460mm and 1430mm. The multicoloured Tiffany-style glass is cut piece by piece and joined with soldered seams over a metal frame, and the extra width gives the pattern more room to read from across a room rather than only from underneath. One E27 GLS bulb of up to 60W is needed and is supplied separately. It weighs 2.4kg, which keeps the fixing simple for a shade of this size.

A 480mm single pendant is wide enough to hold a dining table on its own, and it also works over a kitchen island, in a hallway with some height, above a stairwell or in a sitting room where a floor lamp has nowhere to stand. Hung low it gives a warm pool of light for eating; hung higher it lights a whole hall. The traditional glass suits older houses and cottages, and in a plain room it becomes the one thing with colour and pattern in it. Rated IP20, it belongs in dry indoor rooms.

Wiring is Class 2, double insulated, so no earth is needed at the rose, though installation is still work for a qualified electrician. Dust the glass with a dry soft cloth or a soft brush, wipe marks with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately, keeping solvents, polishes and abrasive creams off the solder lines. Let the bulb cool before changing it.
