Knightsbridge Torlan 5ft IP65 Non-Corrosive Batten 26W/48W CCT Microwave Sensor - Grey

The Knightsbridge Torlan is a 5ft (1563mm) non-corrosive LED batten with selectable wattage (26W or 48W), selectable colour temperature (3000K, 4000K, 5700K) and an integrated microwave occupancy sensor. The polycarbonate housing and opal diffuser carry IP65 weatherproof and IK08 impact ratings, allowing the fitting to be used in damp, dusty and exposed indoor and outdoor commercial environments.

Designed for workshops, warehouses, car parks, loading bays, farm buildings and external canopies, the Torlan combines high output (up to 7,250lm at 48W 4000K) with adjustable sensor control that dims or switches the light when the space is unoccupied. Internal DIP switches set the wattage, colour temperature and sensor behaviour (hold time, daylight threshold, detection sensitivity) without needing to remove the fitting from its mounting. The unit can be surface-mounted directly to ceilings and soffits or suspension-mounted using optional accessory kits.

The grey polycarbonate body resists corrosion in coastal, agricultural and chemical environments where traditional steel housings would rust. The diffuser is held by stainless steel clips rather than plastic tabs, preventing clip failure from UV exposure or temperature cycling. At 26W the fitting delivers 4,045lm at 4000K with 155lm/W efficacy; at 48W it delivers 7,250lm with similar efficiency, offering two light levels without needing to stock separate SKUs for each output.

The L70B50 rating of 60,000 hours suggests the LED will maintain at least 70% of its initial output after approximately 7 years of 24-hour operation, or significantly longer under typical occupancy-sensor-controlled duty cycles. The microwave sensor detects movement through the polycarbonate diffuser without line-of-sight, so the sensor continues to function even if the diffuser becomes dusty or wet.

How do you change the wattage and colour temperature?

Internal DIP switches on the driver board allow selection between 26W and 48W, and between 3000K, 4000K and 5700K. These are set during installation. The Product Manual (see Downloads tab) includes the switch position diagrams.

What environments can it be used in?

The IP65 rating protects against water jets and dust ingress, and the IK08 impact rating withstands impacts up to 5 joules. Combined with the anti-corrosive polycarbonate body, the Torlan is suitable for damp workshops, car washes, agricultural buildings, coastal warehouses, loading bays and external canopies. It is not designed for continuous submersion or areas requiring ATEX certification.

How does the microwave sensor work?

The microwave sensor emits a continuous low-power radio signal and detects movement by measuring Doppler shifts in the reflected signal. Unlike PIR sensors, microwave sensors detect through the polycarbonate diffuser and do not require a clear line-of-sight lens. Detection range, hold time and daylight threshold are adjustable via internal controls.

Can it be suspension-mounted?

Yes, but suspension mounting requires an optional accessory kit (sold separately). Surface mounting to ceilings and soffits is supported directly using the fixing points on the batten body.
