Description

The Joan is a single-light wall fitting with a midnight black hourglass-shaped shade suspended on a curved burnished brass arm from a rectangular brass backplate. The shade features a series of vertical perforations along the neck and lower body that allow light to escape in narrow beams, casting striped patterns onto adjacent walls when fitted with an E27 bulb (sold separately).

Designed for bedrooms, hallways and living spaces where directed ambient light is needed without ceiling fittings, the Joan extends 305mm from the wall and positions the bulb inside the wider lower section of the shade. The downward opening directs most of the light output below the fitting, making it suitable for reading positions beside a bed or armchair, or as paired installations flanking a console table or mirror in a hallway. The brass arm curves up from the backplate before dropping down into the shade, giving the fitting a distinct mid-century profile.

The midnight black finish on the metal shade has a low-sheen powder coat that absorbs reflections, while the burnished brass on the arm and backplate shows visible brush marks and a warm tonal variation characteristic of hand-finished brass. The 60W maximum rating accepts standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulbs, with most users pairing the fitting with a warm-white LED between 6-10W. The 273mm height and 159mm width suit wall spaces with at least 400mm clearance in each direction.

The Joan takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient bedroom or hallway lighting.

What do the perforations do?

How far does it extend from the wall?

The fitting projects 305mm from the wall at its furthest point, measured from the backplate to the front of the shade. Allow at least 350mm clearance from the wall when planning installation near furniture or doorways.

Can it be installed upside down?

No. The shade is designed with the wider opening facing downward to direct light below the fitting. The perforations are positioned to cast patterns when the fitting is mounted in its correct orientation.
