Description
The Fernhaven curved arm tapered wall light bends its vintage brass arm out and up from a white marble detail, carrying a tapered shade 300mm above the wall plate. It measures 130mm wide with a 175mm projection, and the curve is what sets it apart from the straight armed Fernhaven fittings: it lifts the shade clear of the backplate, so the light spills more freely along the wall. One E14 LED lamp at 7W sits inside, and it weighs 0.6kg.
A curved arm reads softer than a straight one, which suits a bedroom, a snug or a sitting room where the rest of the furniture has rounded lines. The tapered shade angles light downward for reading while the raised curve throws a little back up the wall, so a single fitting does two jobs. As a wall sconce it also forgives an uneven wall better than a rigid straight arm, because the eye follows the curve rather than the line of the plate. It is dimmable with a compatible LED lamp and dimmer switch, and a pair either side of a bed mirror each other neatly. We like it best in pairs, where the two curves answer each other.
Metal in a vintage brass finish makes up the arm and plate, warm and softly aged, with white marble providing a cool matt counterweight. Dust both with a dry soft cloth. Marble is porous and reacts badly to acid, so keep vinegar, citrus cleaners and bathroom sprays away from it entirely. The fitting is rated IP20 for dry rooms. Fernhaven table lamps and floor lamps share the same brass and marble if you want them to sit together.
