Description

The Fernhaven table lamp stands 470mm tall with a 280mm shade span, on a brushed aged brass stem set into white marble. It is the wider of the two Fernhaven table lamps across the shade, which gives it a slightly more generous spread of light on a surface. One E14 LED lamp at 7W lights it, and at 2.4kg the marble keeps it firmly planted on a side table or a console.

A table lamp does the work that overhead lighting cannot: it puts light at sitting height, where you actually read and talk. This one suits a living room side table, a hall console, a desk corner or a bedside where there is room for a proper base. Two either end of a sideboard balance a long wall. Height counts on a bedside table, and at 470mm the shade sits above the eyeline of anyone propped up in bed, so the light falls on the book instead. It is not dimmable, so a switched socket or a plug-in switch is the way to manage the level. We would run two along a sideboard where a wall needs balancing.

The stem and shade frame are metal in a brushed aged brass finish, matt and gently darkened, and the base is natural white marble with its own veining, so no two are identical. Dust the brass with a dry soft cloth and treat the marble gently: it is porous, and vinegar, citrus or bathroom sprays will etch it. The Fernhaven range runs through wall lights and floor lamps in the same brass and marble if you want to build the look up.
