Description

The Elderford inverted pendant is a three light ceiling light with a 400mm Tiffany-style bowl in multicoloured leaded glass, hung so that the shade opens upwards. Light bounces off the ceiling and comes back into the room softened, while the coloured glass glows from within the bowl. The drop adjusts between 600mm and 1000mm. It takes three 60W E27 GLS bulbs, supplied separately, and it is dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer. The fitting weighs 2.8kg.

Inverted pendants suit rooms where you want brightness without glare, since nothing shines directly down into your eyes. That makes this a sensible ceiling light for a sitting room, a dining room, a study or a landing with reasonable height. It is also a good answer in a room with a pale ceiling, which reflects more of the light back. Three lamps at 60W each give plenty of output for a main light. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The bowl is built from coloured glass cut and leaded piece by piece, then soldered into a metal frame and hung on three chains from a metal ceiling rose, so the colour and leadwork vary slightly between shades. It is Class 1, so an earth connection is needed, and we would leave installation to a qualified electrician. Dust the glass with a dry, soft cloth and lift marks with a barely damp one, keeping sprays away from the solder. Because the bowl faces up it will gather dust, so give it a wipe more often than a downward shade. A matching Elderford flush ceiling light is available for lower rooms.
