Description

The Citronic JACK-USB2 is a converter lead that takes a 6.3mm mono jack at one end and connects to a USB type A port at the other. It lets you plug a line input, instrument or dynamic microphone straight into a PC or Mac, handling the analogue to digital conversion inside the lead itself. There's no external interface or extra software to set up, so you can start recording quickly once it's connected.

Audio quality holds up well for a lead of this type. It supports up to 48kHz A/D conversion at 16bit, with a signal to noise ratio of 83dB, a dynamic range of 80dB and a frequency response of 20Hz to 19kHz at 48kHz. THD+N sits at -76dB (-3dBr), input impedance is 1M Ohm and the built-in gain adds +20dB, which helps bring up quieter sources like a dynamic mic (US: dynamic microphone). Input level handling runs from 0 to 2.8Vpp.

The lead is 3.0m long and weighs 153g, so it gives you room to work without needing a mains supply, as it draws power over USB bus. It works with Windows 2000, XP, 7 and 8, along with Mac OS X 10.1 and above. This makes it a practical pick for recording vocals, instrument parts and podcasts direct to a computer, whether you're capturing a quick idea or putting together a full session. Plug it in, select it as your input and you're ready to record.
