Description

The Chord DMH-12 is a 12-inch mesh drum head made for quiet practice and for use on electronic kits. In place of a standard plastic film, it uses a woven nylon mesh that gives you a much softer, muted sound when you play. That makes it a sensible choice when you want to work on your playing without filling the room, or the house, with volume.

The tensile nylon mesh holds its tension well, so you get a natural stick response and a feel that sits closer to an acoustic head than a rubber pad. When fitted to a trigger-equipped drum, the mesh works with the pickup to sense your hits while keeping the acoustic noise down. It suits players moving between an acoustic setup and an electronic one, and anyone who needs to practise at home, in a flat, or late at night.

Fitting is the same as any other drum head (also called a drumhead or drum skin): seat it over the shell, drop the rim on top, and tension it evenly with your drum key. As a 12-inch size, it works well as a tom head on a wide range of kits. It gives you a consistent playing surface for regular practice, and the muted response means you can put in the hours without disturbing the people around you.

Frequently Asked

What size is this drum head?

It is a 12-inch mesh head, suited to a 12in tom or any drum with a matching 12in diameter.

Why is a mesh head quieter than a normal one?

The woven nylon mesh absorbs the impact of the stick rather than resonating like a solid plastic film, so it produces a muted sound instead of a loud, ringing tone.

Can I use this on an electronic kit?

Yes. It is made for practice and for electronic kits, where it pairs with a trigger to sense your hits while keeping the acoustic noise low.

Does it feel like a real drum head to play?

The tensile nylon mesh holds tension well and gives a natural stick rebound, so the feel is closer to an acoustic head than a rubber pad.

How do I fit it to my drum?

Seat the head over the shell, place the rim on top, then tension it evenly with a drum key, just as you would with any standard head.
