Description

The Chord DI-A1 is an active DI box (direct injection box) that converts high impedance instrument outputs into low impedance line signals, ready to feed straight into a mixing console. It suits guitars, basses, keyboards and other sources with a jack output, giving you a clean balanced feed over long cable runs without the signal losses you'd otherwise get.

An internal buffer amplifier boosts the signal, which is what makes this an active rather than a passive design. You get flexible powering: 9-52V phantom power, an optional 9V PP3 battery (not supplied) or a 12Vdc adaptor. The input is a 6.3mm unbalanced jack, with an XLR male balanced output plus a 6.3mm through jack so you can run to an amp and the desk at the same time. Input impedance is over 100k Ohms, with a 600 Ohm output.

A 3-way pad switch covers 0, -20 and -40dBu for level matching across different sources, so you can tame a hot signal before it reaches the console. The Ground-Float-Lift selector handles hum and noise problems in two ways: the float option lifts the ground with an RF/mains filter in circuit, while the lift option isolates signal ground without the filter. Housed in a compact metal case at 103 x 70 x 45mm and weighing 243g, the DI-A1 is easy to add to a pedalboard or slip into a gig bag.

Frequently Asked

How do I power the DI-A1?

You have three options: 9-52V phantom power from the desk, an optional 9V PP3 battery (not supplied) or an optional 12Vdc adaptor. Phantom power is the most common choice for stage and studio use.

What is the difference between the Float and Lift ground settings?

The Float option lifts the signal ground while keeping an RF/mains filter in circuit. The Lift option isolates the signal ground without the filter. Both are there to help you deal with hum and ground loop noise.

What do the pad settings do?

The 3-way pad switch offers 0, -20 and -40dBu of attenuation. This lets you match the input level to the source, so a strong signal from active pickups or a keyboard doesn't overload the input.

Can I feed my amp and the mixing desk at the same time?

Yes. Alongside the balanced XLR male output there's a 6.3mm through jack, so you can send an unbalanced feed to your amp while the desk takes the balanced signal.

What inputs and outputs does it have?

There's a single 6.3mm unbalanced jack input, plus an XLR male balanced output and a 6.3mm unbalanced through jack. Input impedance is over 100k Ohms with a 600 Ohm output impedance.

Is the DI-A1 suitable for a pedalboard?

Yes. At 103 x 70 x 45mm and 243g it's compact and light enough to sit on a pedalboard or travel in a gig bag.
