Description

The Chord CBS110 is a wooden afuche cabasa with an 11cm (110mm) head. It uses a loop of chromed steel beads wrapped around a textured cylinder, which you rotate or press against your palm to create a rasping, shuffling sound. It's a hand percussion instrument that turns up in Latin, jazz and world music, as well as school music rooms and drum circles.

To play it, you hold the wooden grip handle in one hand and rest the bead chain against your other palm. Twisting the handle drags the beads across the ridged surface, giving that scraping texture, while shaking it produces a softer shaker-like rattle. The chromed beads add a bright edge to the sound and hold up well to regular handling. The wooden body keeps the weight down and gives you a firm, comfortable grip during longer sessions.

This size sits in the middle of the range, big enough for a full sound but still easy to control for smaller hands. It works on its own or alongside a wider percussion setup. If you're building a first set of hand percussion or adding to a classroom store, the CBS110 is a straightforward, hard-wearing option that does its job without fuss.
