Description

The Chartwell is a single-arm wall light with a hand-worked scroll backplate, wire-bound curved arm and ivory candle tube holder in a textured black finish. The fitting takes one E14 candle bulb up to 60W (sold separately) and projects 210mm from the wall, placing the light source forward of the mounting surface to cast soft ambient light across hallways, alcoves and dining room walls.

Designed for traditional and period interiors where decorative metalwork adds character to the wall plane, the Chartwell pairs a compact 92mm width with the visual weight of hand-formed scrolls and a candle-style silhouette. The wire binding around the arm is a traditional blacksmith detail that breaks up the smooth curve and adds texture when viewed from the side. The ivory candle tube sits in a shallow dish pan, echoing the proportions of candlestick wall sconces from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The black finish is a low-sheen textured coating applied over metal, giving depth to the scroll detailing on the circular backplate. At 100mm height and 210mm projection, the Chartwell works in spaces where a larger multi-arm sconce would overwhelm the wall, including narrow hallways, chimney breast alcoves, and either side of wall-mounted mirrors or artwork. The E14 fitting accepts both filament candle bulbs for a warm glow and LED equivalents for lower running costs.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Chartwell take?

The fitting takes one E14 candle bulb up to 60W. E14 is a small Edison screw base, also known as SES. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 4-6W LED candle bulb in warm white (2700K) to match the traditional aesthetic.

How far does it project from the wall?

The Chartwell projects 210mm from the wall when installed. This places the bulb forward of the mounting surface, allowing light to spread across the wall rather than being trapped close to the backplate.

Is it suitable for narrow hallways?

Yes. At 92mm wide and 100mm tall, the Chartwell has a compact footprint that works in hallways as narrow as 900mm without obstructing passage. The 210mm projection should be considered when positioning near doorways or corners.

Can it be installed upside down?

The candle tube and dish pan are designed to sit upright with the bulb pointing upwards, as shown. Inverting the fitting would place the bulb downwards, which disrupts the candle-style silhouette and may cause the dish pan to sit incorrectly.
