Description
The Carisbrooke is an 8-arm chandelier finished in black with hand-bound wire drapes connecting each candelabra arm and ivory-coloured candle tubes housing the E14 bulb fittings. The frame spreads approximately 750mm wide, with eight arms arranged symmetrically around a central column that feeds cable through to a ceiling canopy. Each arm carries a single E14 candle bulb (sold separately), giving a total rating of up to 8 x 60W.
Designed for high-ceilinged dining rooms, entrance halls and double-height living spaces, the chandelier ships with a chain suspension system that allows drop adjustment during installation. A flush-convert system is included, letting the fitting be installed as a semi-flush ceiling light where ceiling height is lower or a more compact profile is needed. This makes the Carisbrooke adaptable to rooms with ceilings between 2.4m and 4m+.
The black finish is a textured powder coat over metal, giving a low-sheen surface that reads as charcoal-black rather than gloss. The hand-bound wire drapes between each arm form a gentle scalloped curve, a traditional detail seen in Georgian and Gothic revival chandeliers. The ivory candle tubes contrast with the black metalwork, creating definition when the fitting is viewed from below. The chandelier is compatible with optional glass shades (sold separately) that clip onto the candle tubes if a diffused light effect is preferred.
From Elstead Lighting, a UK manufacturer producing traditional and classical lighting designs. The Carisbrooke range includes 3-light, 5-light and 8-light variants in black and other finishes, allowing consistent styling across multiple rooms.
Frequently Asked
What bulbs does it take?
The chandelier takes eight E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a soft ambient effect.
Can it be fitted to lower ceilings?
Yes. The chandelier ships with both chain suspension and a flush-convert system. The chain allows a long drop for high ceilings, while the flush-convert system lets the fitting sit closer to the ceiling as a semi-flush fitting, suitable for rooms with ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards.
What ceiling height is recommended?
For chain suspension over a dining table, a ceiling height of 2.7m or above works well, allowing the chandelier to sit 700-900mm above the table surface. For semi-flush installation, a minimum ceiling height of 2.4m is acceptable.
Are glass shades available?
Yes. The chandelier is compatible with optional clip-on glass shades that fit over the ivory candle tubes. These are sold separately and provide a diffused light effect if the exposed bulb look is not preferred.
