Description

The Carisbrooke is an 18-light chandelier built on a matt black wrought-iron frame with hand-bound wire swags connecting candelabra-style arms arranged in two tiers. The lower tier carries twelve candle positions, the upper tier six, all fitted with ivory-coloured candle sleeves that house E14 bulbs (sold separately). The chandelier measures 1430mm diameter and hangs from a central stem with 3000mm of adjustable chain, allowing drops between 1370mm and 4250mm depending on ceiling height.

Designed for high-ceilinged spaces — entrance halls, double-height living rooms, period ballrooms and hotel foyers — the Carisbrooke requires a minimum ceiling height of approximately 3.5m to avoid the lower tier sitting too close to head height when the chandelier is set at its minimum drop. The 1430mm width suits rooms of 5m × 5m or larger, where the scale of the fitting can be appreciated without overwhelming the space. The matt black finish contrasts with light-coloured ceilings and plasterwork, giving the chandelier visual weight even when unlit.

Each of the eighteen arms curves outward and upward from the central stem, with thin wire swags hand-bound between the candle positions to create a draped effect. The swags are functional — they provide lateral bracing to the arms — but also decorative, referencing Gothic and early Renaissance chandeliers where chains or fabric were draped between candle branches. The ivory candle sleeves add warmth to the black metalwork and allow the bulb shape to be visible, which works particularly well with filament-style E14 LED bulbs that mimic traditional candle flames.

What bulbs does the Carisbrooke take?

Each of the eighteen positions takes a single E14 small Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations pair this chandelier with warm-white filament-style LED bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K to mimic candle flames while keeping running costs low.

What ceiling height is needed?

A minimum ceiling height of approximately 3.5m is recommended. The chandelier's minimum drop of 1370mm means the lowest tier of candles will sit around 2.1-2.2m above floor level when hung at its shortest, which is acceptable in most double-height spaces. For rooms with ceilings above 5m, the 3000mm chain allows the drop to be extended up to 4250mm.

Can the drop be adjusted after installation?

The drop is adjustable on installation by shortening or extending the chain within the ceiling rose. Once installed, changing the drop requires re-accessing the ceiling fixings. The specification lists height adjustment as 'On Installation' only.

How is the chandelier maintained?

The matt black finish can be dusted with a soft dry cloth or feather duster. For the wire swags and ivory candle sleeves, use a barely-damp microfibre cloth if needed, avoiding soaking the metal. Switch off at the mains before cleaning and allow bulbs to cool fully.
