Description

The Calverdale semi-flush is a round cut glass flush ceiling light, 450mm across and 380mm deep, with three lamps set behind faceted glass. Because it fixes close to the ceiling rather than hanging on a long drop, it clears heads in rooms where a chandelier would be in the way. The cut glass still does the work, breaking the light into small bright points across the ceiling and the upper walls. Bright nickel metalwork keeps it cool toned and clean, and at 4.6kg it is a straightforward fit for a standard ceiling point.

Semi-flush fittings like this earn their place in hallways, landings, bedrooms and any room with a ceiling under about 2.4 metres. We would use it in a bedroom where a low pendant feels like a hazard, or along a landing where two in a row light the full length. It suits anyone who wants the sparkle of a chandelier in a room that cannot take the drop, and it works over a dining table in a cottage with beams.

Faceted glass is set into a metal frame finished in bright nickel, and three E14 LED lamps of around 6W each sit inside. It is dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer, which is useful in a bedroom where you want low light late on. Dust with a dry, soft cloth, working a soft brush between the facets, and keep sprays away from the lampholders. It is rated IP20, so dry indoor rooms only, and as a Class 1 fitting it needs an earthed supply. Pair it with the Calverdale chandelier where ceilings are higher to run one range through the house.
