Description
Finished in antique brass, this Calverdale wall light holds two faceted cut glass shades that scatter small points of light across the wall behind them. The fitting spans 300mm, stands 260mm tall and projects 164mm, which is enough presence for a chimney breast or a landing wall while still sitting reasonably flat. Two E14 lampholders take 6W LED bulbs, and the whole fitting is dimmable with the right dimmer switch and dimmable bulbs. It weighs 1.6kg, is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms and is a Class 1 fitting, so the supply needs an earth.
Antique brass is a warm, slightly darkened metal that suits rooms with wood, dark paint or period detail, so we would put this wall sconce in a snug, a dining room, a study, or along a hallway with panelling. Cut glass gives more life than a plain diffuser, and dimming lets the same fitting go from working light to a low glow after dinner. Fitted in pairs it frames a mirror or an alcove neatly, and at 164mm deep it stays clear of shoulders in a corridor.
The backplate and arms are metal in an antique brass finish, and the shades are cut glass with facets that catch light from several directions at once. Dust the cuts with a soft dry brush, then wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry at once, leaving sprays and cream cleaners well away from the brass. The finish is meant to look aged rather than bright, so small variations in tone are part of the look. Across the Calverdale range the same cut glass appears on a floor lamp, a linear pendant, semi-flush ceiling lights and a chandelier, with a bright nickel version of this wall light too.
