Description

The Brindleigh floor lamp stands 1575mm tall with a 500mm Tiffany-style shade in multicoloured leaded glass on a metal column and base. Two 60W E27 GLS bulbs sit inside, supplied separately, so it works as a genuine light source rather than a decorative one. At 8.6kg it is heavy enough to feel settled on a rug or a wooden floor, and the wide shade throws light down and outwards across a good part of the room.

A floor lamp at this height reads as furniture, so we would give it a proper place: beside an armchair, in the corner of a sitting room, at the end of a sofa, or in a wide hallway next to a console. Half a metre of shade needs a little space around it, so it is better in a room with some floor to spare than in a tight alcove. Whether you call it a floor lamp or a floor light, the job is the same, ambient light at head height that means you can leave the ceiling light off. Rated IP20, it is for dry indoor rooms.

The shade is built from coloured glass cut and leaded panel by panel, then soldered into a metal frame, so no two are quite the same in colour or seam pattern. The column and base are metal, and the lamp is Class 2, double insulated, so no earth is required. It is not rated for dimming, so use a standard switch. Dust the glass with a dry, soft cloth and use a barely damp one on marks. A Brindleigh table lamp and globe pendants share the pattern.
