Description

The Alderworth flush ceiling light in blue is a two light fitting with a 410mm Tiffany-style shade in cool blue leaded glass, projecting 210mm from the ceiling. Slim pieces of glass trace the dragonfly motif across the dome, with the wings outstretched so the leadwork carries the drawing as much as the colour does. It takes two 60W E27 GLS bulbs, supplied separately, and it is dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer. It weighs 3.2kg.

Blue glass is the calmest of these colourways, cool and quiet unlit and considerably warmer once the lamps are on. That balance suits bedrooms, landings, studies and hallways, and it works especially well in houses with painted panelling or a cooler palette on the walls. As a flush ceiling light, sometimes listed as flush mount or semi-flush, it is the fitting to choose when the ceiling will not carry a pendant. It works particularly well against off white walls, where the blue has something to read against.

Each panel of glass is cut and leaded individually, then soldered into a metal frame, so the tone of the blue and the pattern of the seams differ slightly between shades. The mounting plate is metal and the shade releases so you can reach the lamps. It is Class 1, needing an earth at the ceiling, so we would leave installation to a qualified electrician, fixing into a joist or a rated anchor. Dust with a dry, soft cloth and wipe marks with a barely damp one. Flame and beige Alderworth colourways are also available.
