Description

The Adastra CBM20 is a low profile boundary microphone made for ceiling or panel mounting. Its threaded body fits through-holes up to 50mm, so it sits flush and stays out of sight once installed. The omnidirectional pickup pattern gathers sound from all directions, which makes it a good fit where you want to capture a room rather than a single fixed source. The compact housing measures 72 x 32mm in diameter and weighs just 76g, so it adds very little to the fabric of a ceiling tile or panel.

We supply the CBM20 with a male XLR connection and it runs on phantom power between 9 and 52Vdc, drawn from your mixer or preamp. The frequency response covers 50Hz to 17kHz, with a sensitivity of -39dB (±3dB) and an impedance of 200 Ohms. Maximum input SPL is 140dB at 1kHz, so the mic copes with louder environments without distorting. The cutout for mounting is 20mm in diameter, giving a neat finish against most panel and ceiling surfaces.

Typical uses include audio pick-up for induction loop (hearing loop) systems, plus monitoring and recording for CCTV setups. Because the mic is discreet and sits close to the surface, it works well where you need clear audio without a visible microphone on show. In the US this style is often called a boundary or PZM microphone, and the CBM20 fits the same role. It is a straightforward, dependable option for fixed installs that call for even room coverage.

Frequently Asked

What power does the CBM20 need?

It runs on phantom power between 9 and 52Vdc, supplied by your mixer or preamp through the XLR connection.

How is the microphone mounted?

The threaded body fits through-holes up to 50mm, with a 20mm diameter cutout, so it sits flush in a ceiling tile or panel.

What pickup pattern does it use?

It has an omnidirectional pattern, so it captures sound from all directions around the mic rather than a single fixed point.

What connection does the CBM20 have?

It uses a standard male XLR connection to link to your mixer, preamp or recording input.

What is it suitable for?

It suits induction loop systems, room audio monitoring and CCTV audio recording where a discreet, low profile mic is needed.

How loud a source can it handle?

The maximum input SPL is 140dB at 1kHz (≤1% THD), so it copes with fairly loud environments without distorting.
