Description

The Adastra BC5A-W is a two-way active monitor speaker set supplied as a pair, with one powered unit and one passive satellite. The powered unit houses a stereo amplifier module rated at 2 x 30W RMS, driving both speakers so you don't need a separate amp. It's built for nearfield monitoring, home entertainment or use as a small active background music system, and the finish here is white.

Each speaker uses a 133mm (5.25") polypropylene cone woofer paired with a 25mm balanced dome tweeter, giving a frequency response of 100Hz to 20kHz and a sensitivity of 88dB. The drivers are magnetically shielded, so you can place the speakers near a monitor or television without picture interference. Front-panel controls cover volume, treble and bass, along with a power on/off switch and an LED indicator so you can see at a glance when the set is running.

The set runs from a 230Vac, 50Hz mains supply through a supplied 1.5m Fig.8 (figure-of-eight) lead. A 4m speaker link cable connects the passive unit to the powered one, and mounting brackets are included if you want to wall-mount rather than shelf-stand them. Each cabinet measures 240 x 180 x 155mm, and the full set weighs 4.6kg. Dispersion is rated at 150° (-3dB), giving a wide listening area for a compact pair.

Do I need a separate amplifier?

No. The powered unit has a built-in stereo amplifier module rated at 2 x 30W RMS, which drives both the active and passive speakers.

Can I place these near a screen?
