Description

The Adastra AB-5 is a pair of passive bookshelf speaker cabinets finished in black woodgrain vinyl. Each cabinet holds a 5.25 inch (135mm) reinforced paper cone driver and a 1 inch (25mm) silk dome tweeter, giving you balanced, full range output across a frequency response of 70Hz to 20kHz. Sensitivity sits at 95dB, so the pair puts out a good level of volume without needing a large amount of power behind them.

Impedance is 4 Ohms per cabinet, which makes these a match for most stereo amplifiers that can run down to 4 Ohms, including Adastra's own low impedance models. Power handling is rated at 50W RMS and 80W peak per speaker, so they suit background music, radio and voice announcements in shops, bars and similar spaces. Connections are made through push terminals marked plus and minus on the rear.

Each cabinet measures 285 x 190 x 167mm and weighs 2.26kg. On the back you get two M6 threaded mounting inserts on 75mm centres, and the pair ships with keyhole flushmount wall brackets so you can fix them straight to a wall. That gives you the option of shelf placement or a permanent wall mount depending on the room and how you want the sound spread.

They are passive speakers, so they need a separate amplifier to drive them. There is no built-in amp or power supply.

What impedance are these speakers?

Each cabinet is 4 Ohms. Pair them with a stereo amplifier that can operate down to 4 Ohms, such as Adastra and other low impedance amps.

How much power do they handle?

Each cabinet handles 50W RMS and 80W peak. That is plenty for background music, radio and voice announcements.

Can I mount them on a wall?

Yes. Each cabinet has two M6 rear threaded inserts on 75mm centres, and keyhole flushmount wall brackets are included in the pair.
