Provence Adjustable Table Lamp - Polished Nickel

The Provence is an adjustable table lamp with a polished nickel finish, three articulated knuckle joints and a conical metal shade. The lamp sits on a weighted circular base approximately 160mm in diameter, with two arm sections linked by brass-bushed joints that allow the shade to be angled from near-horizontal desk task lighting up to a 90-degree vertical position for reading beside an armchair.

Designed for desks, bedside tables and reading corners where directed light is needed without a fixed overhead fitting, the Provence combines task functionality with a traditional machinist's lamp aesthetic. The three-joint articulation gives precise control over light direction — the base joint allows left-right rotation, the mid-arm joint controls elevation angle, and the shade joint tilts the beam up or down. This makes the lamp suitable for both close work (paperwork, laptop use) and directed reading light when positioned beside seating.

The frame is constructed from steel arms with brass joint fittings, finished in polished nickel that gives a brighter, cooler metallic tone than brass or bronze alternatives. The polished finish shows fingerprints more readily than brushed or satin alternatives, but produces sharper reflections under natural light. The conical shade measures approximately 160mm at the base and houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately), with the shade opening directing light downward in a focused pool rather than diffusing it across a room.

Total extended reach from base to shade tip is approximately 600mm when the arm is fully horizontal, reducing to around 400mm vertical height when angled upright. The weighted base and metal construction give the lamp sufficient stability to hold position once adjusted without needing a clamp or bracket fixing to the desk surface.

What bulb does the Provence take?

The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W for desk work, or a cooler daylight-spectrum LED for technical tasks requiring colour accuracy.

Does the arm hold position when adjusted?

Yes. The three brass-bushed knuckle joints are friction-fit to hold position once the arm is angled. Over time and repeated adjustment the joints may loosen slightly, but they can be tightened by adjusting the brass fittings at each knuckle.

Is the polished nickel finish easy to maintain?

Polished nickel shows fingerprints and smudges more readily than brushed or satin finishes. Wipe with a soft microfibre cloth to remove marks. For stubborn fingerprints, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid sprays or chemical cleaners that may dull the polished surface.

What's the maximum reach when extended?

When the arm is fully horizontal, the lamp reaches approximately 600mm from the base centre to the shade tip. This allows the light to be positioned over the centre of a typical desk without the base sitting directly in the work area.
