Description

The Maytoni Planet is a 10cm diameter surface-mounted LED downlight with two independent light sources housed in a cylindrical black aluminium body. The main downward-facing LED delivers 12W of 3000K warm white task light through a frosted diffuser at the base, while a second LED ring behind the top rim creates an indirect upward wash against the ceiling. Both sources are integrated LEDs operating on 220-240V mains.

Designed for rooms where recessed downlights are impractical due to shallow ceiling voids or concrete construction, the Planet mounts directly to the ceiling surface with a 10cm circular footprint and 9.2cm projection. The dual light sources operate in three modes selectable via an existing wall switch: main light only for task lighting, backlight only for ambient wash, or both together for combined direct and indirect illumination. This makes the fitting adaptable to different room uses without needing additional controls or dimmers.

The matt black aluminium finish absorbs rather than reflects light from adjacent sources, helping the fitting blend into dark ceilings or providing contrast against light-coloured surfaces. The cylindrical form directs all main light downward in a defined pool rather than diffusing it sideways, making the Planet suitable for hallways, WCs, walk-in wardrobes and utility rooms where focused overhead light is needed in a compact footprint. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor areas only.

How do I switch between the three light modes?

The Planet cycles through main light, backlight and both together using your existing wall switch. Turn the switch off and back on within 3 seconds to move to the next mode. The manual in Downloads above confirms the exact switching sequence for this model.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means the Planet is suitable only for dry indoor areas. Bathrooms require IP44 minimum, and zones 1-2 require IP65 or higher depending on proximity to water sources.

Is the LED dimmable?

The specification does not list dimmer compatibility. The three-mode switching via the wall switch provides some light level flexibility, but traditional dimming is not supported unless confirmed by the manufacturer.

What ceiling fixing is required?

The Planet surface-mounts to a standard ceiling rose or junction box using screws through the base plate. The 10cm diameter base covers a typical ceiling rose completely, and the 9.2cm projection allows clearance for cable termination inside the housing.
