Description
The Woolwich is a 650mm table lamp built on a textured graphite ceramic base finished with a white reactive drip glaze that runs from the neck down over the shoulders, stopping irregularly mid-body. The glaze application creates a different pattern on each lamp, with the graphite showing through in places and the white pooling and feathering unpredictably depending on kiln temperature and glaze viscosity during firing. A silver faux linen tapered cylinder shade sits on the ceramic neck, crowned with a polished nickel finial.
Designed for bedsides, side tables in living rooms, and console tables in hallways, the Woolwich provides ambient light through fabric diffusion rather than directed task light. The 300mm shade diameter suits table widths of 500-700mm without overhanging the edge, and the 650mm total height positions the light source at a comfortable level for reading when seated. The E27 bulb fitting accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W (sold separately), giving flexibility to choose warm white, daylight or vintage-filament bulbs depending on the room.
The ceramic base carries noticeable weight at the bottom third, giving the lamp stability on polished surfaces without needing a broad footprint — the 180mm base diameter occupies less than half the shade width. The reactive glaze finish shows variation in how the white runs over the graphite, with some pieces showing more drip length and others showing heavier pooling at the shoulder. This glaze behaviour is intentional and characteristic of reactive ceramic finishes, where the final pattern is determined by the firing process rather than hand-painting.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Woolwich take?
The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient bedside or living room lighting.
Does the glaze pattern vary between lamps?
Yes. The white reactive glaze is applied by hand and fired in a kiln, which means each lamp develops a different drip pattern depending on glaze viscosity and kiln temperature. Some pieces show longer drips, others show heavier pooling at the shoulder. This variation is a feature of the reactive glaze technique, not a defect.
Is the shade fabric or plastic?
The shade is faux linen — a textile-weave fabric mounted on a wire frame. The silver colour is the fabric itself, not a coating, and the tapered cylinder shape diffuses light evenly downward and outward.
What table width does the lamp suit?
The 300mm shade diameter suits table widths of 500-700mm comfortably without overhanging the edge. On narrower bedside tables (400-500mm) the lamp still works but occupies most of the table width, leaving limited space for other items.
