Description

This is the Volute as a lamp post, 156cm of cast column carrying a lantern at the top. The Volute is the scrolled one, its bracket curling back on itself under the lantern. The light falls from above head height over a drive or a front garden, and column and lantern arrive as one item under one code. This is the copper-top version, so the roof weathers to a brown patina while the rest stays black. This is the flange-plate version: a slim column on a wide ribbed foot, a different silhouette from the swelling cast plinth the range also offers. The powder paint is baked on rather than sprayed, so it keeps its colour against sun and salt instead of chalking off in a season or two. The opal version is also made with the lamp built in, at 12W, rather than taking a bulb.

What we wanted here was the coach-lamp look in cast aluminium. The first image is the manufacturer's own scale drawing of this lamp post, filled in the black finish it is supplied in at 156cm, not a photograph: the manufacturer's photograph of the Volute shows a different variant, and we would rather draw this one accurately than show you the wrong product. The second image is a photograph of this fitting, showing the lantern head alone, not the full height of the post, there for the finish and the detail a drawing cannot carry.

The post is set on an anchor bolt cast into the ground, which the manufacturer supplies column, and the supply cable comes up through the base from below. Leave the connection accessible before the ground is made good around the foot. Wiring is work for a qualified electrician: it wants a terminal approved to EN 60998-2-1 or EN 60998-2-2 in a wiring box rated IP68, which is the manufacturer's own instruction.
