Description
This is the Volute as a hanging wall lantern, the lantern slung below its bracket so the light goes down onto the step rather than up into the eaves. The Volute is the scrolled one, its bracket curling back on itself under the lantern. It sits lower on the wall than the upward version and needs less headroom above it. The Volute sits behind a polycarbonate lens, clear or opal, that will not shatter. The powder paint is baked on rather than sprayed, so it keeps its colour against sun and salt instead of chalking off in a season or two. The opal version is also made with the lamp built in, at 12W, rather than taking a bulb.
What we wanted here was the coach-lamp look in cast aluminium. The shape is usually made in pressed steel, which rusts from the inside once a stone chips it, and this is the version that will still be sound in ten winters. The first image is the manufacturer's own scale drawing of this hanging wall lantern, filled in the black finish it is supplied in, not a photograph: no photograph of this hanging wall lantern is published, and we would rather draw it accurately than show you a different product. Measure the height in the specification against the wall before you buy.
It fixes to masonry and the cable should enter from behind the backplate wherever the wall allows. Brought in from below, a cable invites water to run down the sheath into the housing, which is how most outdoor wall lights fail long before the fitting does. Wiring is work for a qualified electrician: it wants a terminal approved to EN 60998-2-1 or EN 60998-2-2 in a wiring box rated IP68, which is the manufacturer's own instruction.

Frequently Asked
What is it made of?
The body is die-cast aluminium EN47100 with a clear or opal polycarbonate diffuser, finished in baked polyester powder paint.
What is the diffuser made of?
Polycarbonate, in a clear or an opal finish depending on the version. Both are shatter-resistant.
Can it stay out all year?
Yes. It is rated IP43 and the aluminium body does not rust when the coating is chipped.
What bulb does it take?
The E27 versions take a standard E27 bulb up to 15W, not included. The LED versions have the lamp built in at 12W, 3000K, and take no bulb.
Is the main image a photograph?
No. It is the manufacturer's own scale drawing, filled in the black finish this range is supplied in.
Does it come complete?
Yes. It ships as one item under one code.
