Description
The Vanguard is a 2-light wall light built around a geometric diamond frame in old black finished steel, holding two candle-style E14 fittings on a rectangular backplate. The frame consists of layered steel strips that form an open diamond shape, creating depth and shadow when lit. The old black finish shows tonal variation across the steel, giving the fitting an aged, industrial character rather than a uniform painted appearance.
Designed for hallways, either side of mirrors, flanking doors or bedside in traditionally-styled or industrial-leaning interiors, the Vanguard provides accent lighting rather than primary room illumination. The 122mm projection from the wall and 305mm height make it suited to circulation spaces where deeper wall sconces would obstruct movement. The E14 fittings accept candle or golf ball bulbs up to 40W each (sold separately), with warm filament LED bulbs between 2-4W being the most common pairing for soft ambient light.
The layered frame construction means the wall light casts both direct light from the exposed bulbs and secondary shadow patterns from the steel frame itself, adding visual texture to plain walls. The old black finish works in rooms with exposed brick, dark timber, aged brass fixtures or monochrome schemes, and provides contrast when mounted on white or pale painted walls. The rectangular backplate is 180mm wide and fixes directly to a UK wall box or surface-mounted back plate.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Vanguard take?
The wall light takes two E14 small Edison screw bulbs up to 40W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use warm-white LED candle or golf ball bulbs between 2-4W and 2700K for ambient lighting that highlights the frame design without excessive glare from exposed filaments.
Can it be used in pairs?
Yes. The Vanguard is commonly installed in symmetrical pairs either side of mirrors, doorways or along hallways. When spacing a pair, allow at least 600mm between the centre points of each fitting to avoid visual crowding.
How is the old black finish different from matt black?
The old black finish shows tonal variation and a slightly textured, aged appearance across the steel rather than a flat, uniform coating. This gives the fitting an industrial, reclaimed character that pairs with traditional and vintage-inspired interiors, whereas matt black typically reads as more contemporary.
What projection does it have from the wall?
The frame projects 122mm from the wall when mounted. This is relatively shallow for a decorative wall light, making the Vanguard suited to hallways and circulation spaces where deeper sconces would obstruct movement or catch on passing shoulders.
