Description
The Tournai is a 305mm-diameter outdoor pendant lantern built from hand-cast aluminium and finished in a weathered bronze. Three E14 bulb holders sit inside a six-panel lantern frame fitted with clear seedy glass, which diffuses light through deliberately irregular, bubble-textured panes. The lantern hangs from a decorative cast canopy on a 2000mm chain, adjustable on installation to set drops between 680mm and 3000mm from ceiling to lantern base.
Designed for covered outdoor spaces where an IP44 rating is sufficient — porches, verandas, pergolas with solid roofs, covered entrances — the Tournai pairs period lantern styling with the weather resistance of modern cast aluminium construction. The 630mm body height gives the pendant enough visual weight to anchor a porch ceiling or pergola beam without overwhelming smaller entrance alcoves. The chain-suspended design suits ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards, with the ability to shorten the chain during fitting for lower clearances.
The bronze finish is applied over the cast aluminium and develops a slightly varied patina across different sections of the ornamental scrollwork, which includes acanthus leaf detailing on the canopy and Gothic arch profiles on the six glass panels. The seedy glass is deliberately irregular in thickness, creating light and shadow patterns when the bulbs are lit. Each of the three E14 sockets accepts bulbs up to 60W (bulbs sold separately), allowing the pendant to be fitted with either warm-white LEDs for ambient light or visible-filament candle bulbs to suit the traditional lantern aesthetic.
The IP44 rating means the pendant is protected against splashing water from any direction but is not suitable for direct rainfall exposure or fully open outdoor positions. Installation requires standard UK ceiling wiring terminated into the canopy, with the chain concealing the cable run. The cast aluminium frame and bronze finish require no periodic maintenance beyond occasional wiping with a dry cloth to remove pollen or dust buildup.

Frequently Asked
Can this be used fully outdoors in rain?
No. The IP44 rating protects against splashing water but not direct rainfall. The Tournai is designed for covered porches, verandas, pergolas with solid roofs, and covered entrances where it will not be exposed to rain falling directly onto the fitting.
What bulbs does it take?
Three E14 (small Edison screw) bulbs, each up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 4-6W warm-white LED candle bulbs at 2700K, or choose visible-filament LED candles to suit the traditional lantern styling.
How is the drop adjusted?
The 2000mm chain can be shortened during installation by removing links and coiling excess chain inside the canopy. The minimum drop of 680mm includes the canopy and lantern height; the maximum drop of 3000mm is achieved using the full chain length.
Does the bronze finish tarnish or change colour?
The bronze finish is applied over cast aluminium and is designed to resist corrosion in outdoor conditions. Some natural variation in patina may develop over time depending on exposure to moisture and UV, which is typical of bronze-finished metalwork and generally considered part of the aged character of the finish.
