Description

The Tau is a 4-metre LED pendant light with a continuous flexible neon silicon diffuser running its full length, suspended from a gold aluminium housing at each end. The 40W integrated LED generates 3000K warm white light through the neon silicon tube, which acts as a soft-edge diffuser that removes visible LED hotspots and produces a uniform glow along the entire 4m span.

Designed for installation above kitchen islands, long dining tables, and open-plan living areas where a single linear light source replaces multiple separate pendant fittings, the Tau provides both ambient and task lighting from a single run. The 4m length suits islands between 2.5-3.5m long when installed with approximately 25-50cm clearance at each end, or dining tables up to 3m when centred. The suspension cord at each end allows the pendant to be set at a working height of 70-90cm above the surface depending on ceiling height and use case.

The gold aluminium end caps house the LED driver and power connection at one end, with the silicon tube held under tension between the two mounting points. The neon silicon construction remains flexible throughout its service life and does not yellow or harden over time like early-generation silicon LED diffusers. The tube itself measures approximately 12mm in diameter, creating a lightweight visual profile that suits contemporary, minimalist and Scandinavian interiors without dominating the room. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor locations only.

What ceiling height is needed for installation?

The Tau works in rooms with ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards. For a kitchen island or dining table the pendant typically hangs 70-90cm above the surface, which requires a ceiling height of at least 2.4m to maintain comfortable headroom. Higher ceilings allow the pendant to be raised further for ambient rather than task lighting.

Can the length be shortened?

No. The 4m neon silicon tube is factory-set and cannot be cut or shortened on site. The integrated LED runs the full length of the tube and cutting would damage the circuit. If a shorter linear pendant is needed, see other models in the Tau range or contact us for alternatives.

Is the Tau dimmable?

Dimmer compatibility depends on the specific dimmer model and whether it is rated for LED loads. The integrated 40W LED driver may work with trailing-edge dimmers, but compatibility is not guaranteed across all dimmer brands. Contact us before pairing with a dimmer circuit to confirm compatibility.

Does the silicon diffuser yellow over time?

The high-grade neon silicon used in the Tau is formulated to resist yellowing and hardening over its service life. Early-generation silicon LED diffusers were prone to yellowing, but this material specification addresses that issue. The 3-year warranty covers material degradation including discolouration.
