At 55cm wide and 48cm high, our Step It Up Stool gives us a steady lift where we need it most, whether that is reaching the top shelf of the kitchen or fetching something from the back of a wardrobe. With a depth of 38cm, it holds its own footprint without crowding a room, and at 7kg it is light enough for us to carry from one space to another as the task demands. This is a two-step stool, built for practical work rather than idle standing, and its saffron yellow finish keeps it from disappearing into a corner.

It is made from solid oak and hardwood, with MDF and a polyester textile in the mix, so it feels solid underfoot while staying reasonable to lift. The saffron yellow tone runs bright and warm, a colour we chose to sit happily against pale walls or wooden floors. The covering here is a polyester in that saffron shade, drawing on the same textile range we work with across our other pieces, so it wears well under everyday use and wipes clean without fuss. Beneath the steps sits a fabric storage bin, giving us somewhere to tuck away cloths, cleaning bits or whatever tends to gather near the spot the stool lives.

We keep assembly short, around 30 minutes with the parts and fixings supplied, so it is ready to use the same afternoon it arrives. The two steps make it easy to climb without the wobble of a single tall perch, and the low profile means we can slide it under a side table or against a wall when it is not in use.
