Description

The Stark is an 84mm square recessed downlight with a white aluminium frame and an IP65 rating, making it suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms and outdoor soffits. The fitting takes a single GU10 bulb (sold separately) up to 50W and sits flush to the ceiling surface once installed, with a minimal 29mm installation depth.

Designed for both residential and commercial installation, the Stark suits bathrooms requiring waterproof fittings within zones 1 and 2, kitchens needing moisture-resistant task lighting over sinks and worktops, and covered outdoor areas such as porches and covered terraces. The fixed downlight direction means the beam cannot be adjusted after installation, so positioning is chosen during fitting to direct light where needed. The 84mm aperture cuts cleanly into plasterboard ceilings and requires adequate clearance above the ceiling void for the lamp holder and bulb depth.

The white powder-coated aluminium finish resists moisture and provides a neutral backdrop that pairs with most ceiling finishes. The IP65 rating certifies the fitting against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction, meeting Building Regulations Part M requirements for bathroom lighting when installed in appropriate zones. The GU10 base accepts both halogen and LED GU10 lamps, allowing brightness and colour temperature to be chosen based on room function and preference.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP65 rating protects the fitting against moisture and allows it to be installed in bathroom zones 1 and 2, which include areas above and around the bath and shower. Zone 0 (inside the bath or shower tray itself) requires IP67 or higher.

What bulb does it take?

The Stark takes a single GU10 bulb up to 50W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 5-7W LED GU10 in either warm white (2700-3000K) for bathrooms and living areas, or cool white (4000K) for task lighting in kitchens.

What ceiling depth is needed?

The fitting protrudes 29mm above the ceiling surface once installed. You will also need clearance for the GU10 bulb depth, which is typically 50-60mm depending on the specific lamp chosen. Total void depth required is approximately 80-90mm from the ceiling surface.

Is the beam direction adjustable?

No. The Stark is a fixed downlight, so the beam direction cannot be changed after installation. Positioning is determined during fitting based on where the light needs to fall.
