Description

The Sonata is a 36cm brass wall light built from vertical aluminium tubes arranged around an integrated 12W LED light source. The tubes create a fluted cylindrical form 8.1cm in diameter, with the LED positioned at the centre to cast light both upward and downward through the gaps between the tubes. The brass finish on the aluminium gives a warm metallic tone with moderate reflectivity.

Designed for hallways, staircases, bedroom accent walls and contemporary living spaces, the Sonata provides vertical wash lighting that highlights wall textures and creates up-down visual interest. The 3000K warm white colour temperature suits residential interiors where ambient warmth is preferred over cool clinical light. The 12W LED runs on 220-240V mains and the IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor locations only.

The aluminium construction keeps the weight down to around 0.8kg while maintaining structural rigidity. Each vertical tube is fixed to a shared backplate that mounts flush to the wall via standard bracket fixing. The brass finish is applied as a powder coat or anodised layer over the aluminium, giving abrasion resistance and colour consistency. The 12W LED is integrated into the fitting and not user-replaceable. The LED is rated for approximately 25,000-30,000 hours of operation, which equates to 10-15 years of typical residential use at 4-6 hours per day.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting offers no protection against moisture ingress and must only be used in dry indoor locations. For bathrooms, an IP44 or IP65 rated fitting is required depending on the zone.

Does it cast light up and down?

Yes. The LED is positioned at the centre of the vertical tube assembly, so light escapes both upward and downward through the gaps between the tubes, creating a vertical wash effect on the wall.

What wall colour works best?

The up-down wash effect is most visible on mid-tone to darker walls where the light gradient can be seen clearly. On very light or white walls the effect is more subtle, though the brass tubes still provide decorative interest.
