Description

The Solarae is a 20cm clear glass sphere pendant from Ideal Lux, suspended on a 2m black fabric cable with a polished chrome tube running through the centre of the sphere. A single G4 bulb sits inside the chrome tube, visible through the transparent blown glass, with the bulb's light spreading outward through the sphere in all directions.

Designed for kitchen islands, dining tables, home office desks and bedroom nightstands, the 20cm diameter gives focused downward light coverage over a surface approximately 600-800mm wide. The pendant can be hung singly for a desk or bedside position, or in a row of two or three over a kitchen island or dining table. The 2m cable allows the pendant to be adjusted during installation to sit 700-900mm above a worktop or table depending on ceiling height.

The polished chrome finish on the central tube and canopy reflects light back through the clear glass, amplifying the output from the small G4 bulb. The black fabric cable contrasts cleanly with the chrome and glass, and the transparent sphere reveals the full lamp assembly rather than hiding it behind a frosted diffuser. The IP20 rating restricts the Solarae to dry indoor rooms, and the G4 fitting requires a low-voltage halogen or LED capsule bulb sold separately.

What bulb does the Solarae take?

The pendant takes a single G4 bi-pin capsule bulb, typically a low-voltage halogen or LED. G4 bulbs are small and sit inside the chrome tube visible through the clear glass. Bulbs are sold separately.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating restricts the Solarae to dry indoor rooms only. It cannot be used in bathrooms, wet rooms, or outdoor covered areas where moisture is present.

How many should I hang over a kitchen island?

For a typical 1.5-2m kitchen island, two or three Solarae pendants spaced 500-600mm apart provides even task lighting across the worktop. A single pendant suits a smaller breakfast bar or desk position.

Is the cable length adjustable?

The 2m cable is adjustable during installation, allowing the pendant to be set at the correct height above a table or worktop. Once fitted, the cable cannot be adjusted without removing the canopy from the ceiling.
