Description

The Solarae is a 25cm clear glass sphere pendant with a central brass stem running through the centre of the globe, housing a single G4 halogen or LED capsule. The globe is hand-blown from transparent glass, showing subtle tonal variations and occasional micro-bubbles characteristic of mouth-blown production. The brass stem enters through the top and extends down inside the sphere, terminating in the lamp holder near the bottom of the globe.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and entrance halls, the Solarae works as a single centrepiece over a small dining table or in multiples spaced 600-800mm apart along a longer island. The 2m black fabric cable is adjustable on installation, allowing the pendant to be set 600-900mm above a worktop or 700-800mm above a dining table depending on ceiling height. The IP20 rating limits installation to dry indoor rooms only.

The brass stem finish is an antique brass tone rather than polished or brushed — it carries a warmer, slightly aged appearance that pairs well with both traditional interiors and warmer contemporary palettes. The 25cm diameter provides enough visual presence to anchor a space without overwhelming smaller rooms. The combination of clear glass and brass allows the bulb itself to remain visible when lit, so pairing with a decorative G4 capsule or a small vintage-style filament bulb creates additional visual interest.

The pendant is manufactured by Ideal Lux in Italy and carries a 5-year warranty. The G4 bulb is sold separately — most users pair this with a 2-3W LED capsule in warm white (2700K-3000K) for ambient dining light, though the fitting accepts up to the rated wattage specified in the table below.

The pendant takes a single G4 capsule bulb. G4 bulbs are small bi-pin capsules commonly available in LED (2-3W) or halogen (10-20W). Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm white LED capsule for ambient dining light.

Is the pendant dimmable?

No. The Solarae is not rated for dimming. If dimming capability is required, you would need to use a dimmable G4 LED bulb paired with a compatible trailing-edge dimmer, though this configuration is not guaranteed by the manufacturer and may cause flicker.

No. The IP20 rating limits the Solarae to dry indoor rooms only. It cannot be installed in bathrooms, shower rooms, or any space where it may be exposed to moisture or steam.

How is the cable length adjusted?

The 2m cable is adjusted on installation by feeding excess cable into the ceiling rose or canopy. The pendant cannot be shortened after installation without re-wiring, so final drop height should be determined before the ceiling rose is fixed.
