Description
The Shipston is a black outdoor wall lantern with a nautical-inspired design, built around a clear glass globe housed under a wide aluminium shade. The cast aluminium construction includes a circular wall plate, a curved arm bracket, and a top-vented cap that mimics a ship's lantern, while the E27 socket sits inside the globe to direct light downward and outward through the clear glass.
Designed for front porches, side entrances, garage exteriors and garden walls, the Shipston provides functional path lighting while adding a period detail to cottage, farmhouse and coastal-style properties. The IP44 rating protects against rain splashes and dust ingress, making the lantern suitable for year-round outdoor installation in exposed locations. The 242mm projection from the wall means the fitting needs clearance from door swings and window frames.
The black powder-coated finish on the cast aluminium frame resists corrosion from salt air and moisture better than painted mild steel, while the clear glass globe remains easy to wipe clean without removing the entire fitting. The lantern accepts any E27 LED, CFL or filament bulb up to 60W (sold separately), allowing the light colour and brightness to be matched to the surrounding landscape lighting. At 268mm height and 215mm width, the Shipston sits proportionally on a standard single-storey porch wall without dominating the facade.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP44 means the lantern is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm (including most insects and windblown debris) and against water splashes from any direction. This makes it suitable for covered porches, wall-mounted positions under eaves, and open-air locations where it will face rain but not direct hose jets or submersion.
What bulb should I use?
The Shipston takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED bulb at 2700K-3000K for outdoor residential lighting. For decorative effect, a vintage-style filament LED bulb works well behind the clear glass.
Can this be fitted to brick or rendered walls?
Yes. The circular wall plate has fixing holes for masonry screws. You will need masonry wall plugs rated for outdoor use and fixings appropriate to the wall construction (brick, block, timber frame or render on metal lath).
How is the glass globe cleaned?
The clear glass can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and soapy water while the bulb is removed and the power is isolated. Avoid abrasive cleaners or rough cloths that might scratch the glass surface.
