Description
The Sandown is a black outdoor wall lantern with a downward-facing clear glass shade housed in a cast aluminium frame. The matt black finish covers the circular wall plate, curved support arm, and domed metal shade that sits above the glass. A single E27 bulb inside the glass (sold separately) provides downward light for doorways, porches and covered outdoor areas. The IP44 rating protects the fitting against solid objects above 1mm and water splashes from any direction.
Designed for residential front doors, back doors, porch areas, covered patios and garden gate entrances, the Sandown sits 177mm wide and projects 230mm from the wall. The 255mm height suits standard door frames and porch ceilings between 2.1m and 2.5m without the fitting appearing undersized. The clear glass allows full light output from the chosen bulb, while the metal shade above directs most light downward to illuminate steps, door handles and entrance areas. The fitting wires directly to mains supply through the back plate.
The cast aluminium construction gives the fitting resistance to corrosion in damp coastal and garden environments, though the IP44 rating means it requires some overhead cover from direct rainfall rather than full exposure to driving rain. The matt black finish is applied over a primer coat and resists UV fade better than gloss finishes in direct sunlight. The glass shade is held in place by the metal frame rather than screws or clips, simplifying bulb changes. The fitting accepts any E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W, with most users choosing a warm-white LED between 6W and 10W for porch lighting.

Frequently Asked
Can this be used in fully exposed locations without a porch roof?
The IP44 rating protects against splashes rather than continuous water ingress, so the Sandown performs best under a porch, canopy or eave that provides some overhead cover from direct rainfall. For fully exposed positions a fitting with IP65 or higher is recommended.
What bulb should I use?
The E27 socket accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W. For outdoor porch lighting, a 6-10W LED in warm white (2700K-3000K) provides adequate illumination for door areas and steps without excessive glare. Bulbs are sold separately.
How is it fitted to the wall?
The circular back plate fixes to the wall with two screws through the mounting holes. Mains cable feeds through the centre of the back plate and connects to the fitting's terminal block before the lantern body is secured. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Does the black finish fade in sunlight?
The matt black powder-coat finish over primed cast aluminium resists UV fade better than gloss finishes, though any outdoor finish will show some weathering over several years of direct sunlight exposure. The 3-year guarantee covers material and finish defects.
