Description

The Sally is an 85mm diameter recessed LED downlight with an integrated 11W COB (Chip on Board) LED module emitting 2700K warm white light. The white die-cast aluminium trim ring sits flush with the ceiling surface after installation, giving a clean circular aperture with no visible fixings or lamp holder.

Designed for plasterboard and panel ceiling installation in residential and commercial spaces, the Sally suits bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, hotel corridors and office reception areas where ambient ceiling lighting is needed without visual clutter. The IP40 rating protects against dust ingress and allows use in standard indoor environments. The downlight requires a cut-out in the ceiling void and mounts into the ceiling structure using spring clips supplied with the fitting.

The COB LED module delivers the full 11W output from a single chip surface rather than multiple diodes, giving more even light distribution and reducing glare compared to multi-diode designs. The 2700K colour temperature produces a warm white tone similar to traditional incandescent bulbs, making it suitable for domestic settings where cooler LED temperatures can feel clinical. The all-white finish on the trim ring allows the fitting to blend into white or light-coloured ceilings.

No. The integrated LED driver does not support dimming. If dimming is needed, consider a different Ideal Lux model with dimmable driver compatibility.

What ceiling cut-out size is required?

The 85mm diameter refers to the visible trim ring. The actual cut-out diameter required in the ceiling will be slightly smaller to allow the trim ring to sit over the aperture edge — typically 70-75mm. Check the installation instructions for the exact cut-out dimension before cutting.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP40 rating protects against dust but not moisture ingress. It is not suitable for bathroom zones 1, 2 or 3 where splashing or steam may occur. For bathrooms, choose a downlight with at least IP44 or IP65 rating.

What depth is needed above the ceiling?

Recessed downlights typically require 80-100mm of void depth above the ceiling surface to accommodate the LED module, driver and spring clips. Confirm the exact recess depth requirement from the product specifications before installation in shallow ceiling voids.
