Description

The Redding Station is a single-light outdoor wall lantern with an aluminium body finished in warm bronze, a curved swan-neck arm and a prismatic glass shade that replicates the look of early 20th-century railway station lamps. The E27 bulb fitting sits beneath a domed shade that projects 341mm from the wall, casting downward light through the glass diffuser onto paths, doorways and garden walls.

Designed for installation on exterior walls under eaves or covered porches, the Redding Station carries an IP44 rating that protects the internal fitting from rain and dust. The 305mm-wide mounting plate fixes to standard masonry or timber cladding using concealed fixings behind the backplate. The lantern accepts any standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W (sold separately), allowing control over colour temperature and brightness to suit the surrounding architecture.

The prismatic glass pattern inside the shade breaks the light source into soft radiating patterns, reducing glare while maintaining clear visibility of steps, thresholds and pathways. The bronze finish develops a darker patina over time when exposed to weather, which is characteristic of outdoor metal fittings and can be retained or polished back depending on preference. At 318mm tall and 341mm in projection, the lantern suits medium-sized walls without overwhelming narrow passageways or smaller doorframes.

Feiss manufacture the Redding Station range in the USA with a three-year guarantee. The aluminium construction resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments better than painted steel alternatives, making this suitable for UK coastal locations as well as inland gardens.

Frequently Asked

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 means the fitting is protected from objects larger than 1mm and from water splashing from any direction. This makes it suitable for covered outdoor locations such as under eaves, porches or canopies, but not for fully exposed positions where driving rain would hit the fitting directly.

What bulb should I use?

The lantern takes any standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for outdoor pathway and porch lighting. Filament-style LED bulbs work particularly well with the prismatic glass.

Will the bronze finish change over time?

Yes. Bronze develops a darker patina when exposed to weather and UV light. This is a natural characteristic of the metal and can be left to age or polished back to the original tone using a soft cloth and brass polish if preferred.

What wall surface does it fix to?

The 305mm-wide backplate fixes to masonry, brick, rendered walls or timber cladding using concealed fixings behind the plate. The mains cable enters through a central knockout hole in the backplate.
