Description

The Provence is a rise and fall pendant light with a 305mm conical shade in an old bronze finish, suspended on a weighted pulley system that allows the pendant height to be adjusted without re-wiring. The mechanism uses a counterweight enclosed in a turned brass housing that moves up and down on the cable run, letting the shade be raised or lowered by hand to between approximately 600mm and 1500mm below the ceiling rose.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and breakfast bars where lighting height needs to change depending on use, the Provence provides task light when lowered close to a worktop and more diffused ambient light when raised. The conical shade directs light downwards and can be paired with either a filament bulb for visible warmth or an LED bulb for energy efficiency. The pendant accepts a single E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately).

The old bronze finish is a dark metallic patina applied over steel, giving the shade and counterweight housing a weathered appearance that suits both traditional and industrial-inspired interiors. The 305mm shade diameter provides enough spread for a table up to 1.2m wide without overwhelming smaller breakfast nook installations. The rise and fall mechanism operates on a friction pulley, so the shade holds its position once adjusted but can be moved again at any time.

How does the rise and fall mechanism work?

A weighted counterbalance housed in the turned brass casing moves along the cable as you raise or lower the shade by hand. The friction pulley system holds the shade at whatever height you set it, allowing adjustment between approximately 600mm and 1500mm drop without tools or re-wiring.

Is the old bronze finish lacquered or will it patina further?

The old bronze finish is a factory-applied patina over steel, typically sealed with a protective lacquer. It will not continue to age or patina significantly over time under normal indoor conditions.
