Description

The Polar is a 135mm recessed round ground light built from UV-stabilised white resin with an IP66-rated body and diffuser. It takes a single GX53 bulb (sold separately) and is designed for surface mounting into patios, driveways, pathways and garden borders where lights need to sit flush with the ground plane.

The IP66 rating provides full protection from dust ingress and high-pressure water jets, making the Polar suitable for locations exposed to rain, hosing, poolside splash and garden irrigation. The resin body resists corrosion from atmospheric agents and chemical fertilisers commonly used in outdoor planting, and the fitting is rated to operate in temperatures from -60°C to +90°C, covering both UK winter frost and summer heat.

The white finish is stabilised with UV treatment to prevent yellowing and fading under prolonged sunlight exposure. The recessed design allows the fitting to sit below foot traffic level when installed into hard surfaces, with the diffuser forming the only visible element once fitted. The GX53 lamp format is a compact twist-lock base commonly used in low-profile recessed fittings, allowing the entire unit to remain shallow enough for tight installation depths. The fitting is dimmable when paired with a compatible GX53 dimmable bulb and dimmer switch.

Can it be walked or driven over?

The Polar is designed for surface mounting into patios, pathways and garden borders and can handle foot traffic when flush-mounted. It is not rated for vehicular loading — for driveways and parking areas where cars will drive over the fitting, a dedicated drive-over recessed light with a higher load rating is required.

What installation depth is needed?

The GX53 lamp format and resin body keep the installation depth shallow compared to deeper recessed fittings. Typical installation requires approximately 50-60mm depth below the finished surface level to accommodate the bulb and body. Check the full installation dimensions before cutting into surfaces.

How is the white finish maintained outdoors?
