Description
The Polar is a 135mm recessed round ground light with a black UV-stabilised resin body and a clear diffuser, designed to be set flush into patios, garden paths, driveways and poolside areas. The fitting takes a single GX53 bulb (sold separately) and carries an IP66 rating, providing complete protection against dust ingress and high-pressure water jets. The resin construction resists corrosion from atmospheric agents and chemical fertilisers commonly used in gardens.
Designed for outdoor ground installation, the Polar suits paths requiring wayfinding light after dark, patio edges where upward accent light highlights planters or walls, and driveway borders where low-level lighting improves visibility without glare. The recessed fitting sits flush with the surface once installed, reducing trip hazards and allowing the light to be walked over. The GX53 bulb format is compact and low-profile, keeping the overall recess depth minimal.
The black resin body is rated for continuous operation across a temperature range of -60°C to +90°C, making it suitable for both cold-climate winters and hot summer ground temperatures. The UV-stabilised finish resists fading under prolonged sunlight exposure. The IP66 rating means the fitting can withstand heavy rain, poolside splashing and hosing during garden cleaning without water ingress affecting the lampholder or wiring.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take and is one included?
The Polar takes a single GX53 bulb, which is a low-profile compact format commonly used in recessed ground and cabinet lighting. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED GX53 bulb between 5-9W for path and accent lighting.
Can it be driven over or only walked on?
The Polar is rated for foot traffic and light wheeled loads such as garden wheelbarrows. It is not rated for vehicle traffic. If you need a ground light for a driveway where cars will drive over it, contact us for vehicle-rated recessed ground lights designed to withstand higher loads.
What installation depth is required?
The GX53 bulb format keeps the recess depth relatively shallow compared to E27 or GU10 ground lights. Exact installation depth depends on the bulb length and wiring space required — typically 60-80mm from finished surface level. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician with appropriate IP66-rated cable glands and backfill.
Is it suitable for coastal or pool areas?
Yes. The resin body resists corrosion from salt spray and chlorinated water, and the IP66 rating provides complete protection against poolside splashing and hosing. The UV-stabilised finish prevents fading in high-UV coastal and poolside environments.
