Description

This is the Ovolo as a half lantern, cut flat at the back so it sits almost flush to the brickwork. The Ovolo is rounded, an egg-form body widest at the top and narrowing to the base. That matters in a narrow passage, beside a door that opens against it, or anywhere a full lantern would be caught by a shoulder. The powder paint is baked on rather than sprayed, so it keeps its colour against sun and salt instead of chalking off in a season or two.

The rounded body gives water nowhere to sit. Measure the height in the specification against the wall before you buy. Half the depth means it can go where a full lantern cannot, and it also means it will not be knocked. It fixes to masonry and the cable should enter from behind the backplate wherever the wall allows. Brought in from below, a cable invites water to run down the sheath into the housing, which is how most outdoor wall lights fail long before the fitting does. Wiring is work for a qualified electrician: it wants a terminal approved to EN 60998-2-1 or EN 60998-2-2 in a wiring box rated IP68, which is the manufacturer's own instruction.
