Description

The Orbis is a 100mm square surface-mounted downlight with a black powder-coated aluminium body and a single GX53 lamp fitting. The fitting sits recessed within the squared housing, directing light downwards through a white diffuser while the black frame provides visual contrast against light-coloured ceilings. The GX53 socket accepts dimmable LED lamps (sold separately), allowing output and colour temperature to be chosen to suit the room.

Designed for hallways, kitchens, commercial corridors and retail spaces where ceiling voids are shallow or non-existent, the Orbis mounts directly to the ceiling surface without requiring a recessed cut-out. The 100mm square footprint allows multiple units to be spaced on a grid pattern for even coverage or grouped in clusters for accent zones. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for dry indoor environments including living rooms, offices and bedrooms.

The turned aluminium body dissipates heat from the GX53 lamp efficiently, preventing overheating and extending lamp life. No. The Orbis is surface-mounted directly to the ceiling using screws and wall plugs, making it suitable for spaces with shallow ceiling voids or solid concrete ceilings where recessed fittings are not practical.

What GX53 lamp is recommended?

The fitting accepts any GX53 LED lamp up to the maximum wattage specified by Ideal Lux. Most users pair it with a dimmable 7-9W GX53 LED in 3000K or 4000K depending on whether warm or neutral white light is preferred. Lamps are sold separately.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the Orbis is not splash-proof and should only be installed in dry indoor environments. For bathrooms, a higher IP rating (IP44 or above) is required depending on the zone.

Can multiple units be dimmed together?

Yes, provided all GX53 lamps installed are dimmable-rated and compatible with the same dimmer type. Mixing dimmable and non-dimmable lamps on the same circuit will cause flickering or failure.
